May Court Charity Group Receives Proceeds From Christmas In The Village

Each year the Christmas In The Village event raises money for local charities. This year May Court benefited from the generosity of the neighbourhood residents who attended the Christmas In The Village family event. The May Court charity then selected the May Court Puppet Troupe to receive the donation which will be used to purchase puppets, props, and stage equipment for the season 2017 – 2018.

The May Court puppet troupe performs plays for Public and Catholic schools in the Waterloo Region and charge $150 for the one hour show. The proceeds then go back to the May Court Food Boxes which are available to every school upon request. This year their show consists of 3 plays. An original play written by a puppeteer “The Truth Wizard” is a play which emphasizes telling the truth and not being greedy. Their version of “The Three Billy Goats Gruff” teaches the importance of compromise as a way of settling disagreements. The third play is an enactment of “The Frog Prince”. After each show the puppeteers talk to the students about various puppets and props that were used. They also show samples of puppets that can be made at home or at school and can be used to retell a story.

Thanks to all who made donations at our last Christmas In The Village and for helping out this great program that not only teaches children great lessons through story, but also gives back to those schools.
